Walt Disney World Update

Alright, so, let's get started!

May was a disaster. It normally is a disaster in the first place... I really don't pay attention. My manager got fired, so now I am the primary manager where I work. I didn't want to be, but I've transitioned nicely and I think it's made me grow quickly as a person. One of these days, I will find a new job, but for right now my hopes aren't high. I just have to deal with what I have.

I know I said I would make a separate post about graduation, but I didn't. So, I guess I'll just say a few words. It's really weird being out of college. I miss being in school, making new friends, and most of all learning. So, to be sitting in the crowd instead of with all the graduates who were about to walk the stage made me feel strange. Like my "prime" is over. Like I will never make new friends again. Like I will never have the motivation to read a book or learn about communications or analyze English ever again. And I really hate that feeling, and I don't know how to shake it. This transition period from "college graduate to working class girl" is very hard for me. I am stressed about nothing and upset about everything. I don't know what I am supposed to do with my life now. I don't want to fade into obscurity, I don't want to never learn again, and I don't want to lose what I have already learned. It's just very hard. But I'm glad that I had as much fun as I did when I was in high school / college, and I will never forget all of the craziness that ensued during those 9 years. I just wish I had the chance to do it all over again. Maybe one day I'll go back to get my Masters Degree, but I'm not counting on it. I am having a hard time accepting my new role as a person and I hope that sooner rather than later I learn that I have done everything I can and it's time for a new stage in life.

So, to switch gears...Wade and I went to Disney World, finally. We had a lot of fun and are already trying to prepare to go back some time next year... we're shooting for St. Patrick's Day, but it's too early to tell.

Sunday

We arrived on a Sunday around 4 o'clock, so after we got checked in, we changed out of our "travelin' pants"... and the rest of our clothes, of course, then went to Downtown Disney. We walked around and we got there early, around 5 o'clock, to get seated at the Rainforest Cafe. He had never been, so it was a new experience for him and I think he really liked it! He enjoyed the "thunderstorms" every 15 minutes. You can't go to Disney and not go to the Rainforest Cafe, honestly. After we ate, we went to the humongous Disney store and he bought a couple things, then we walked to an area that I had never been to. They have an AMC movie theatre there, so we decided to see "X-Men: First Class". It was an amazing movie. After that, we went back to the hotel to rest up for the next day.

Monday

On Monday, we went to Animal Kingdom. The first thing we did when we got there was go straight to Expedition Everest. I told him the best way to start the day is on a roller coaster. I don't think he agreed with me, because he was all wobbly when we got off, but what do I care? I enjoyed it! He hadn't been on a real roller coaster ever, really, so I suppose it was a good way for him to begin his roller coaster journey. We went on the Kilimanjaro Safaris, which everyone loves because they get to see live animals. But otherwise, I don't think I went on any other rides. We saw Festival of the Lion King, which is my favorite show, and we also saw Finding Nemo: The Musical, which was super cute and something I hadn't done before. He went on Kali River Rapids, and didn't get drenched at all so I think he was disappointed. We went to Rafiki's Planet Watch, which is only accessible by the train, and we saw owls and I petted a sheep (interesting, right?). He went on Dinosaur, and I went off to find headache medicine because I had a really bad one. So I was resting at a picnic table in DinoLand USA, and there was a dj playing sweet tunes from the 90s. He spotted me and made me get up and dance with some of the Disney castmembers. Wade wasn't there to witness, but he caught the end of my dancing and took photos. It was embarrassing but I did have fun for a while. It just sucked because I felt so bad! We arrived at opening which was 9 am, but we left around 4 because I was feeling really terrible, and it was so hot. We left, and went to UNO Chicago Pizza Grille because I needed real food (we ate peanut butter sandwiches for lunch, which were not effective). After that, we went back to the room, took showers, and rested / watched tv for the rest of the night.

Tuesday

On Tuesday, we went to Hollywood Studios (formerly MGM Studios). We decided to take it easy on this day, so we got there at 11:30 (not smart, we should have gotten there earlier). I didn't want to get there at opening because we were going to be there at 9 that night to watch Fantasmic! So that was my call, and it was wrong, because we couldn't get a fastpass for Aerosmith's Rockin' Roller Coaster or Toy Story Mania.

We got there, and Wade immediately lost his ticket. He went to go get a fastpass for Tower of Terror, and he shoved his ticket into his pocket after entering the park (huge pet peeve of mine, I can't tell you how angry I was). So we had to go to Customer Relations to get him another one. Thankfully, he didn't have to pay for another ticket, they just gave him a replacement. So we went back to Tower of Terror, he got his fastpass, and we went off and wandered around. We went to Voyage of the Little Mermaid, we did the Backlot Tour (which took way too long and cut into time that we could have saved for other rides / shows), Star Tours (which I was not impressed by, they just revamped the whole ride and I don't think it was as good as the original), the Extreme Stunt Show, and Muppet Vision 3D (a good classic). We had dinner at 3 o'clock after he rode Tower of Terror, and we had it at the Hollywood and Vine restaurant, which was buffet. It was excellent. We had the Fantasmic! package, which guaranteed us a spot at the show, and that's good because by the time we got to the line that evening there was standing room only. After dinner, we went to see Beauty and the Beast the Live show, and then promptly waited almost 2 hours to go on Rockin' Roller Coaster. We were mad because we couldn't get fast passes, but we had fun in line. There were castmembers actually selling beer to people who were waiting. After RRC, we went straight to our seats at Fantasmic! I got very emotional during the show... it's always been one of my favorites and I haven't seen it in about 6 years. He really enjoyed the show too. Honestly, I enjoy the feeling I get when I'm at Hollywood Studios moreso than all the rides and shows. The atmosphere is always exciting. It used to be my least favorite park, but they have upgraded a lot of things and it's really fun now. We never got to do Toy Story Mania or eat at Pizza Planet (one of my favorite places to eat sub-par tiny personal pan pizzas), but I'm not upset about it. There's always next time. After the show, we went back to the hotel to gear up for EPCOT!

Wednesday

We woke up early for Epcot, and we were going to go ride the monorail, but we took a wrong turn and ended up in the Epcot parking lot. Which, is good, because we had an extra 30 minutes that we didn't have to ride the monorail but to spend at the park instead, but one of my favorite things about Epcot day is riding the monorail. I was bummed, but not totally.

When we got to the park, we took photos in front of Spaceship Earth, then we went straight to Test Track, got fastpasses for 10 o'clock, but the regular wait was only 10 minutes, so we went on it twice. I only need to go on it one time, but he was excited about it so I agreed. I just figured we could have spent that time doing something else. World Showcase doesn't open until 11, so we spent the first 2 hours in Future World. We got fastpasses for Soarin', and went on Spaceship Earth and went to The Sea with Nemo and Friends. That's one of my favorite parts of Epcot, but he rushed me through it because he was hungry. I was hungry too, but don't rush me through the aquarium!! We decided to go to Italy for lunch and have a pizza. I have never actually stopped at the Italy Pavilion, but it is a gem. Tucked away is a restaurant called Via Napoli, and it was just excellent. My side of the pizza had pepperoni, onions, and mushrooms. It was delightful. We walked around World Showcase and he tried to have a beer in every country (except Japan and Canada, because you can get those beers anywhere). At the Japanese Pavilion, I bought an oyster and when they cracked it open, there was a pearl inside. I got it for my mom as a gift. Meredith and I also did that last year. Next year when I go, I'll get her another and she can put them on a necklace or whatever she wants to do with them. We went back to Future World, rode Soarin', then he went to Mission: Space while I went and stood in line to meet characters. We went back to World Showcase and wandered around more before going to France to eat dinner at Les Chefs de France, which is my favorite restaurant. Unfortunately, we had a waitress (and not a smokin' hot waiter), but she was from Saint Malo and I have been there before! We spent 12 hours at Epcot and were so tired by the end of it. I had a blister on the bottom of my foot and could hardly walk by the end of the day.

Thursday

Thursday was our actual anniversary, and we decided to spend that day at Magic Kingdom. We had our anniversary pins on ready to go and hear people shout "Happy Anniversary" at us. We also didn't get a very good photo in front of Cinderella's Castle, which is really upsetting to me because it's so iconic and Wade hates photographs. We dabbled in a bit of everything... I don't feel like listing all the rides. He went on Splash Mountain, but of course I didn't because it's a water ride, so I stayed on the bridge in front of the ride and took photographs of him in his log flume. We spent a lot of time in Tomorrowland, sampling everything and squealing and having fun on Space Mountain. He didn't like Carousel of Progress, which is one of my favorites, but not everything is supposed to be thrilling. He almost made me vomit on the teacups... I've never been spun so fast. Also, we never got to go on Peter Pan's Flight, which REALLY made me mad because he was "tired" and complaining a lot, so I just said we needed to go back to the hotel. That is like, my favorite ride (everyone's favorite, and that's why the line is always so long) and I was pissed that we didn't go on it. He rushed me out of the park and I was mad. I was also mad that we never took the monorail; we took the ferry and I hate being on water, it makes me really nervous. So I was pissed off at him at the end of the day. There's always next time!

So, all in all, it was a great trip. Next time, we will make modifications (peanut butter sandwiches just don't cut it when you do all that walking... saving more money for quick counter service is more worth it to me). And I hope he doesn't whine as much next year either. That kinda ruined the moment for me. But I still had fun and I was happy to be with him.
